Market Square
Downtown Community Gathering Space
- Concept
- Predevelopment
Market Square would convert a collection of surface parking lots adjacent to Market Street into a central public gathering space. The concept is designed as an everyday pedestrian respite and a flexible location for community events, seasonal programming and informal downtown activity. Green space, trees, a shade pavilion, seating and café furniture create a civic room that can support both community life and nearby businesses.
What the project includes
● Approximately 13,700 square feet of public-space improvements
● Open lawn, shade trees, ornamental planting and a signature evergreen
● Shade structure with seating and café tables
● Masonry seat walls, specialty paving and pedestrian paths
● Community mural opportunities
● Permeable-paver parking and landscaped biobasin areas
● Benches, bike racks, litter receptacles and site lighting
Why it matters
Market Square would give downtown Waverly a recognizable civic gathering place capable of supporting events, social activity, public art and additional foot traffic for the Market District.
Publication note
The scope and cost are drawn from MKSK’s 2023 concept package and opinion of probable construction cost. Confirm current project stage, funding applications/awards, updated cost escalation and implementation schedule with the Village of Waverly before publication.
