Market Street Improvements
Retail District Streetscape
- Concept
- Predevelopment
Market Street is envisioned as the pedestrian-oriented retail spine of Waverly’s Market District. The proposed improvements would rebuild both sides of the street with a coordinated public realm that supports walking, shopping, gathering and downtown business activity. The concept combines practical infrastructure upgrades with placemaking elements intended to make the corridor more comfortable and recognizable throughout the year.
What the project includes
● Approximately 830 linear feet of streetscape work, excluding intersections
● Enhanced brick crosswalks and pedestrian safety improvements
● New curbs, concrete sidewalks and brick amenity zones
● Street trees in decorative grates with irrigation
● Permeable-paver parallel parking along both sides of the street
● Landscaped bump-outs and biobasin gardens for traffic calming and stormwater management
● Decorative lighting, banners, planters, benches, bike racks and historical signage
Why it matters
The project creates a more walkable retail corridor, improves the public realm around local businesses and provides a visual and physical connection between other downtown investments.
Publication note
The scope and cost are drawn from MKSK’s 2023 concept package and opinion of probable construction cost. Confirm current project stage, funding applications/awards, updated cost escalation and implementation schedule with the Village of Waverly before publication.
