U.S. Route 23 Streetscape Improvements
Downtown Gateway & Corridor Improvements
- Concept
- Predevelopment
The U.S. Route 23 Streetscape Improvements would upgrade both sides of the downtown corridor between North Lock Street and North East Street. The concept responds to the scale of the four-lane state route while creating a stronger pedestrian environment and a recognizable arrival into Waverly’s Market District. The design uses coordinated paving, landscaping, lighting and gateway features to strengthen downtown identity and improve the experience of residents, visitors and businesses.
What the project includes
● Approximately 1,000 linear feet of streetscape improvements, excluding intersections
● New concrete curbs and brick sidewalks
● Enhanced brick crosswalks and curb ramps
● Potential planted center medians and landscaped areas
● Decorative light poles with banners and planters
● Two gateway arch elements marking the downtown district
● Benches, litter receptacles and supporting utility work
Why it matters
The project is intended to improve pedestrian safety, calm traffic visually, establish a stronger downtown identity and create a more attractive setting for private business investment.
Publication note
The scope and cost are drawn from MKSK’s 2023 concept package and opinion of probable construction cost. Confirm current project stage, funding applications/awards, updated cost escalation and implementation schedule with the Village of Waverly before publication.
