Walnut Street Park Improvements
Inclusive Recreation & Wellness
- Concept
- Predevelopment
The Walnut Street Park concept reworks an existing neighborhood park to serve a broader range of ages and recreation interests. The plan combines accessible playground improvements with active recreation, updated support facilities and a more connected streetscape. Existing mature trees are retained where possible while new trees, sidewalks, parking and amenities improve access and daily use.
What the project includes
● Approximately 1.68 acres
● New accessible playground equipment and resilient play surfacing
● Three new pickleball courts with fencing, equipment and lighting
● Resurfaced and restriped basketball court with new goals and lighting
● Resurfaced shuffleboard court
● Restroom improvements
● New sidewalks, permeable-paver parking and landscaped biobasin areas
● Trees, benches, picnic tables, grills, bike racks and litter receptacles
● Protection of large existing specimen trees
Why it matters
The project broadens access to recreation, supports health and wellness, and creates a more useful multi-generational park for residents and visitors.
Publication note
The scope and cost are drawn from MKSK’s 2023 concept package and opinion of probable construction cost. Confirm current project stage, funding applications/awards, updated cost escalation and implementation schedule with the Village of Waverly before publication.
